Sport Grants
Endowment Fund Award - Awarded to Calgary athletes competing at a high-performance national or international level, and who are committed in their pursuit of excellence.
Closing date is January 10

Canadian Athletes Now Fund - Provides funds and awareness to athletes representing Canada internationally.
Application Deadline: August 28.
Amateur Athlete Bursary 
Amateur Athlete Bursary Program - As part of Talisman Centre's John Currie Amateur Sport Legacy Fund, this athletic bursary will be awarded to amateur athletes with financial need training in Calgary.
Application deadline is February 28
Take the Lead Grant - Assists Albertan girls and women to become experienced leaders in the areas of sport and recreation.
Closing dates: April 30, October 31
KidSport Grant - Provides assistance to children from families facing financial barriers so they can participate in registered sports programs.

Amateur Sports Grant - Enhances amateur sport throughout the Calgary area by supporting capital projects that provide significant benefits to the continuation and enrichment of amateur sport.
Closing dates: January 15, June 15, October 15 of each year
The Jumpstart Fund – "We get kids in the game by assisting with the costs associated with registration, equipment and/or transportation for sports and physical activity programming. We also lend support to unique initiatives aimed at increasing access to sports and physical activity programming." Applications can be submitted from January 15 to November 1.
Parasport Jumpstart Fund – "The fund helps to support the costs of sports and recreational programs for children between the ages of 4 and 18, who are financially disadvantaged and living with a disability.  Funds may be used towards registration, transportation and equipment costs for children within approved Parasport programs." weson Wonder+ Cares Healthy Active Kids Grant - This grant program supports charitable organizations across Canada that are working to increase access to high-quality after-school programming, for children in Kindergarten to Grade 8. Funding of up to $15,000 is available for programs that are offered throughout the year.

Athletes Assistance Program - Provides financial support to enable athletes to combine their sport and academic/working careers while training intensively in the pursuit of world-class performances. Must be approved for carding.
Applications should be received five (5) working days before the annual AAP Review Meeting
CIBC's Team Next program supports Canadian Athletes with a $5,000 annual grant.
Fuelling Athletes and Coaching Excellence (FACE) - Petro-Canada: Working together with the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC), the CAC, and their National Sport partners, the FACE program provides developing, pre-carded Canadian athlete and coach pairings with $8,000 in grants.

Team Investors Group Amateur Athletes Fund - Open to any active athlete who is committed to training/competing for Canada in the upcoming year as a member of a senior national team.
Closing date is January 31

Excellence in Sport $1500 Bursary Awarded by Shayna Nackoney-Skauge, RE/MAX Realtor and leader of the Beautiful Calgary Homes Real Estate Team. This $1500 bursary is in support of Calgary athletes ages 12-19 competing at a National and Provincial Level. Visit for application details as well as other ways for eligible athletes to receive an Excellence in Sport Bursary. Shayna is a former Olympic athlete and proud supporter of young athletes on their journey to excellence. Applications accepted between June 1 to June 30, 2016.

ParticipACTION Teen Challenge - ParticipACTION Teen Challenge (formerly known as Sogo Active) is a program created for one reason: to inspire Canadians aged 13-19 to become more active. Striving to eliminate the inactivity crisis in Canada, Teen Challenge helps youth take initiative and identify creative, exciting ways to add daily activity into their lives. Grants are distributed to any event/challenge/activity that gets teens between the ages of 13-19 physically active. (Short-term activity grants = $250 maximum; Long-term activity grants = $500 maximum) Applications reviewed quarterly.
Rick Hansen Foundation: Quality of Life Program - This grant provides direct funding to individuals with disabilities including spinal cord injury and other injuries, diseases and birth conditions, including (but not limited to) stroke, spina bifida, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) who have specific needs that cannot be met by existing programs, services or funding sources. Organizations may also register, but must be a qualified donee as defined by the CRA. Application open from August 4 to September 30, 2016.

Canada's Dairy Farmer's Champions Fund- The 2016 Champions Fund will award $5,000 grants to 20 deserving female athletes, teams, or organizations, providing the financial support needed to pursue their athletic goals. Anyone from Canada’s female athletic community aged 13 and older can apply, or apply on behalf of their team, tournament, camp or program. Deadline for submissions is September 29th, 2016, with the 20 grant recipients announced November 2016.

Lieutenant Governor's Leadership for Active Communities Award - The 3rd Lieutenant Governor's Leadership for Active Communities Award is recognizing the achievements of both groups and individuals from Alberta who lead their communities in increasing participation in active living, recreation and sport. Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council

Insight Development Grant - Supports the initial stages of research development projects, up to two years.

George Weston Limited's Active Healthy Kids Grants - Increases access to innovative recreational programs that help young Canadians (Kindergarten to Grade 8) improve their fitness, nutrition levels, connect to their community and develop life skills. Funding is available to Registered Canadian Charities offering direct programming.

Women In Sport Encouragement Fund - Assists sports initiatives and the sporting community that is aimed at girls and women.
Field Law's Community Fund Program - Accepts proposals for projects that help communities, and then allows the public to vote for their favourite proposal. Awards range from $1000 to $30,000.

RBC Learn to Play Project Grants - A multi–year funding commitment dedicated to incorporating physical literacy into youth sport and recreation programs, with the goal of encouraging more kids to get out and play.

RBC Play Hockey, in partnership with Hockey Canada, USA Hockey - Funds projects that keep hockey vibrant in communities. Support is present in numerous forms, including equipment, volunteers, coaches and ice surfaces.
Applications are assessed twice annually.
GoodLife Kids Foundation - Offers a grant program (up to $10,000) for charities (and other qualified donees) that deliver programs for children with special needs. The deadline for applications is August 26 and October 21, 2016.
Community Capital Conservation Grant - Supports community-operated infrastructure on City-owned land, through funding for facility lifecycle planning and capital projects to maintain safe and healthy facilities.

The Investors Group Community Coaching Conference - Grants available for organizations that bring coaches of community-based sport together to learn, train and network.
Applications must be received two months before an event.
Government of Alberta Grants
Community Facility Enhancement Program - Supports the expansion/upgrade of community facilities, in partnership with local citizens, community organizations and volunteers.
Closing dates: April 1 - March 31 of each government fiscal year.
Community Initiatives Program - Matching funds to enhance and enrich project-based initiatives throughout Alberta.
Closing dates: April 1 - March 31 of each government fiscal year.
Other Initiatives Program - Provides support to worthy Alberta projects which cannot be funded under the criteria/existing funding levels of other Alberta Lottery Fund grant programs.

Alberta Sport Connection Grants

Event Support Program - Assists communities/associations in hosting major events.
Closing dates: January 1, April 1, July 1, October 1.

Grants for Coaches and Officials - Supports initiatives that encompass a long-term strategic approach to coaching and/or official developments.
Deadline is July 15, 2016.

The Calgary Foundation Grants

Community Grant - Supports initiatives that respond to emerging community issues and evolving priorities.
Applicants must contact The Calgary Foundation one month prior to closing date. Closing dates: February 15, September 10.
Canada 150 Grant - Offered to both registered charities and non-charities that encourage participation in community activities, inspire a deeper understanding of the people and places that make up Canada, and build healthy and vibrant communities that engage people from multiple backgrounds. Deadline is September 1, 2016. 
Neighbourhood Grant - Supports resident-led projects that help create and strengthen neighbourliness.
Closing dates: May 2nd and June 13, 2016.
Stepping Stones Grant - Encourages active citizenship by helping residents undertake small creative projects that benefit their local community.
Applications must be received by midnight on the 1st of each month.
Michael Gee Scholarship Fund Award - Award is based on athletic (hockey) and academic performance. Scholarship funds are available when entering post-secondary education.
Closing date is April 16 each year.
Organization Transformation Grant - Assists organizations that are in a period of transition towards long-term sustainability.
Open application
Daryl K. Seaman Canadian Hockey Fund - Supports amateur ice hockey in Canada, registered amateur athletic associations, and other general charitable purposes determined by the Board.
Closing date is November 12 each year.
Tara Sloan Memorial Scholarship - Offered to senior national competitive swimmers (non-carded), attending a university in Alberta.
Closing date is November 30 each year.
The Kyle Block Scholarship was established to assist worthy recipients in pursuing post-secondary studies while being active in sports, music, fine arts or social issues.
Closing date is June 1 each year.
Grassroots Grants - The Soul of the City Neighbour grants are for people who dream of doing something great for their community.
