Beginners Fencing for Women and Girls

Sport Calgary and Trellis partnered up to provide a vibrant and fun space to teach beginner fencing skills to women and girls. This one-hour event was led by 3 female coaches from Epic Fencing and took place at the Gensis Centre in the Falconridge community, with 24 women and girls in attendance. This women-only program gave these women the ability to be introduced to a new skill in a safe space at their own pace.

The Epic Fencing instructors, including one Olympian, assisted the ladies with the rules, equipment and lingo of fencing. As the participants progressed through the program, their confidence continued to grow. This program not only encouraged physical activity and movement, but also electrified community building and outreach! The warm energy in the room fueled a lot of laughs as well as demonstrated the power and ability that Sport has when it comes to breaking down barriers and promoting confidence and connection.

The Beginners Fencing for Women and Girls program is only one example of how All Sport One Community is working towards breaking down barriers, encouraging confidence, and providing sport in a more accessible way one step at a time.
