Calgary, AB — May 6, 2026 — Calgary Minor Soccer Association (CMSA) is proud to celebrate Calgary Blizzard Soccer Club as its Alberta Premier League Men’s Team prepares to take on CF Montréal tonight in the Canada Soccer TELUS Canadian Championship at Stade Saputo in Montréal.
The match represents a historic moment for Calgary Blizzard SC and an exciting milestone for Calgary’s broader soccer community. Calgary Blizzard earned its place in the national competition as Alberta Premier League champion and will now face a Major League Soccer club on one of Canadian soccer’s biggest domestic stages.
For CMSA, the moment is also a powerful example of Calgary’s soccer pathway in action. From youth competition and club development to the Alberta Premier League and national-level opportunities, the match demonstrates what is possible when players, coaches, clubs, families and communities work together to grow the game.
“This is a massive moment for Calgary Blizzard and for the broader Calgary soccer community,” said Carlo Bruneau, Executive Director of Calgary Minor Soccer Association. “To see a local club step onto the national stage against CF Montréal in the TELUS Canadian Championship is something players, coaches, families and supporters will remember for a long time. It also reinforces the strength of the soccer pathway in Calgary — from youth clubs and CMSA competition, through to the Alberta Premier League and opportunities at the highest levels of the Canadian game. Moments like this show young players in our city that the pathway is real, and that Calgary soccer belongs in the national conversation.”
For Calgary Blizzard, the match carries deep meaning for the club, its players and its broader community.
“This is an emotional moment for those of us who grew up in this system and for the entire Calgary soccer community,” said Jackie Martin, Executive Director, Calgary Blizzard SC. “These players aren’t just representing Blizzard, they’re representing Calgary and the strength of what’s been built through CMSA. It’s not just the group on the field, it’s the coaches and staff here in Montréal and those back home who helped get us here. To have more than 150 people gathered in Calgary for a watch party shows how much this means. This is The Orange Way on the national stage and a reflection of a pathway that’s inspiring the next generation.”
For the players, the opportunity to represent Calgary Blizzard and the city on the national stage is a proud and memorable milestone.
“Representing the club and the city is a privilege and a massive honour,” said Marco Plenzik, Team Captain, Calgary Blizzard SC. “Doing it with this group of players is what truly makes this experience a once-in-a-lifetime memory.”
CMSA congratulates Calgary Blizzard, its players, coaches, staff, volunteers and families on this achievement and encourages the Calgary soccer community to show its support as the club represents Calgary on the national stage.
The match kicks off tonight, Wednesday, May 6, at 5:30 p.m. MT / 7:30 p.m. ET.
