Throughout the year, Sport Calgary monitors and keeps a record of any municipal, provincial, and federal grants that can be applied for by various levels of sport.

AMATEUR SPORT GRANT - ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW WEBINAR - August 27th, 2024
Considering applying for this grant? Since the inception of the Amateur Sport Grant Program, Parks Foundation Calgary has awarded more than $15 million dollars to over 560 groups in Calgary.

Capital Grants

Built Together
Five $50,000 grants awarded each year to support community amenities and facilities that promote active living. Application period: June to August.

Field of Dreams
The Field Of Dreams program provides funding to design, refurbish and build safe spaces for children and youth to play baseball, develop life skills and learn from positive role models. Application opens September 15.

Capital Project: GHG Impact Retrofit
Achieve a minimum 30 percent GHG emissions reduction through a retrofit of a community building when compared to baseline emissions. Eligible projects may be a single comprehensive community building retrofit, or a portfolio of buildings. Combined loan and grant for up to 80% of eligible project costs.

Major Sport Event Grant Program
Provides community organizations an opportunity to build upon Alberta’s strengths for hosting national and international events.

Community Buildings Retrofit Initiative
Retrofit existing community buildings to lower GHG emissions and extend their life cycle. The CBR funding offer supports all stages of project development, helping communities of all sizes to significantly reduce GHG emissions, while extending their asset’s life cycle.

Amateur Sport Grant
Supports capital projects that provide significant benefit to the continuation and enrichment of amateur sport. Eligible organizations, based in Calgary, can apply for grants for new amateur sports facilities, expanding or improving existing facilities, or purchasing equipment used to support amateur sports in Calgary. 3 deadlines: Feb. 1, May 1, Oct. 1

ASAA Scholarship
The award is for students who achieve a balance in school, home and community life. ASAA member schools may submit a nomination for one male and one female only.Pay It Forward Scholarship
The award recognizes student athletes who give back to their schools and communities by either coaching or officiating in school or community sport.

This award is for student athletes who contribute their time as either a coach or an official in either the school or community.

Children’s Fund - High School
Administers five granting programs, among which several scholarship and bursary program to assist high school students in financial needs. See "high school students" program and "Open Door Bursary" program.
Watson Family Foundation Fund: Special Needs
Grants are available to improve and sustain the quality of life for special needs children in low income families by providing funds for services and equipment. Assistance is made possible by the Watson Family Foundation at the Calgary Foundation.

Art Smith Amateur Sports Legacy Fund
Awards of up to $1000 to youth athletes up to the age of 16 years old.
Bob Freeze Sport Grants
Awards of up to $1000 to youth athletes up to the age of 16 years old. In additon, the Calgary Booster Club may choose one organization each year and will provide financial support up to $15,000.
Gretta Schwartz Memorial Scholarship
Grade 12 Female Calgary Senior High School Athlete. To be consider for this award you will need to be nominated by your School’s Athletic Director.
Harry Hood Memorial Football Award Scholarship
Presented annually to a grade 12 football player from each of three Senior Football Division.
John F. Mayell Memorial Scholarship
Grade 12 Male Calgary Senior High School Athlete.

Calgary Foundation offers support for post-secondary studies through athletic awards for students demonstrating excellence in hockey, sailing and dance.

Individual Child Grant
Helping with the registration and equipment costs associated with a sport or physical activity for a child. Grant application opens in January and closes when the funds have been depleted for the year.

Fair Entry Program
Cardel Rec South proudly honors both the City of Calgary and the Kidsport Fee Assistance Programs. All families accepted into either of these programs are welcome to use their credits towards any programs offered at South Fish Creek Recreation Association.

CAF Annual Grant Program
Individuals worldwide with permanent physical disabilities are eligible to apply for the CAF grant. Teams, organizations, etc. are not eligible to apply. Hearing impairments, Intellectual and developmental disabilities do not qualify for support through CAF. Medical Verification of Disability is required.

Fair Entry Program
Customers who have already been approved for Fair Entry may also apply for Recreation Fee Assistance. If approved, you can receive discounts on rates for all ages for recreation programs and amenities across the city (as long as your Fair Entry status is valid).

Alberta Athletic Award
The Alberta Athletic Award recognizes and rewards athletic excellence at universities, colleges, and technical institutions in Alberta. Athletic departments at your school will select and pay eligible athletes for this award. Equal selection of male and female athletes is to be maintained where possible.
Alberta Junior Athletic Award
The Alberta Junior Athletic Award recognizes and rewards junior athletes and provides an incentive for athletes to continue with their post-secondary education. $1,000 up to $2,000.

Podium Alberta
Provides funding to Alberta’s high-performance athletes to help cover costs related to training, equipment and living expenses. Application deadline is October 2024. Some Podium Alberta eligibility criteria have changed and come into effect in 2021. Not accepting new applicants

Player Assistance Program
A financial support to current or new players looking to play the game of hockey who may not otherwise have the opportunity to do so because of financial hardship. 4 deadlines: Jan. 31, Apr. 30 and Jul.31, Oct. 31

Take the Lead Funding
Help Albertan girls and women become experienced leaders in the sport and recreation fields. Funding monies could be used for training, course fees, professional development, professional certification, clinics, equipment, travel, lodging, meals, and other training related activities. 2 intakes: Apr. 30 & Oct. 31.
Contribution Program
Alberta Not-For Profit Organizations or Charities are eligible to apply for funding support to get more women and girls active in sport, physical activity and recreation. The InMotion Network contribution program provides physical activity and leadership funding support for projects that align with our Women in Motion, Girls in Motion, Go Girl, and Take the Lead programs.

Athlete Funding
KidSport provides grants to kids from families facing financial barriers so they can participate in registered sport programs and experience the lifelong benefits of a season of sport.

Big Assist
The Kruger Big Assist program will award $10,000 to 15 minor hockey associations across Canada to help provide financial assistance to hockey families in their communities. These funds will go towards offsetting the cost of hockey registration fees.

Play, Grow, Succeed
The Lace'Em Up Foundation for Kids provides financial assistance to low-income children across Canada. The grants help offset hockey registration costs with the goal of increasing youth hockey participation rates and reducing the financial burden on families.

Bursaries and Scholarships
The Royal Canadian Legion is committed to supporting Veterans and their families. Many Branches award scholarships through their General Funds to recognize scholastic achievement and support youth in their community.

Fair Entry Program
Once you have your valid Fair Entry/Fee Assistance card (must have a non-expired FA Expiry Date sticker) you can use it at MNP Community & Sport Centre to receive our Fee Assistance rates: you pay only 50% of our daily admissions or you can purchase a month admission pass or a full year admission pass (prices available upon request).

Crowdfunding Campaign
A global leader in crowdfunding for sports. They do not take any fees from donors supporting Sport Funder campaigns, they can provide tax receipts upon request, It is absolutely free to set up and share a Sport funder campaign. When your campaign is over, the money you raise will be subject to PayPal/Credit Card processing fees (up to 3%) so you'd need to set up your goal a bit higher to cover this cost.

Community Engagement
Awards students up to $70,000 for college or university (up to $10,000 for tuition per year, $7,500 a year for living expenses) for 4 years.

Youth Subsidy
Their Opportunity exists to provide underserviced youth with barrier-free access to local sports and recreation programs. Through the delivery of free after-school and community programming, the distribution of sporting equipment and traditional sporting bursaries, we set out to eliminate barriers so children can develop essential life skills such as confidence and sportsmanship, as well as develop a healthy lifestyle.

Fair Entry Program
YMCA Calgary provides financial assistance for those who wish to register for membership, programs, or camps, but are not able to afford the full registration fee.

CPRA Green Jobs Initiative
This program will provide direct financial support (via 100% wage subsidies) to local governments, allowing them to offer placements that will focus on youth gaining a broad range of skills, knowledge and experience in the community parks and recreation sector. Check in January.

Canada Summer Job
Government of Canada’s commitment to help young people between the ages of 15 and 30. The program provides wage subsidies to employers from not-for-profit organizations, the public-sector, and private sector organizations with 50 or fewer full-time employees.

Eligible employers can get government funding to help employees and unemployed Albertans access training opportunities
Enabling Accessibility Fund
The Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF) provides funding for projects that make communities and workplaces more accessible for persons with disabilities.
There are 3 different program components in the EAF. Each component holds separate calls for funding. The eligibility criteria will be further defined during each funding process. Deadlines vary with component applied for.The youth innovation component - Deadline early October

The Magnet Student Work Placement Program
Program funding reimburses eligible employers for 75% of wages (to a maximum of $7,500) for each placement.
Equipment Grants

Equipment Loaner Program
Canopy or portable BBQ available to borrow for events. To be eligible for ATCO Gas sponsorship or donations, community group needs to be a registered charity or not-for-profit community service organization, association or society and operate in and benefit an ATCO Gas community.

Sport Equipment Bank
Gather, recycle and redistribute used sports equipment at no cost to those kids would otherwise be denied the opportunity to participate.

Equipment & Fee Assistance Grants
Female players requiring equipment can apply to receive 1 of 25 full sets of equipment donated by the NHLPA Goals & Dreams Fund. Please check back next spring for the 2022 grant application process start date.

The NHLPA Goals & Dreams fund provides equipment grants of brand new equipment to organizations and programs that are helping deserving children play the game of hockey. There are several steps to the process. The first step is registering your program with us.

Parasport Sport Development Fund
Funding through the Paralympic Sport Development Fund will support initiatives and programs that contribute to athlete and coach development for those on a Paralympic pathway. Funding can cover recruitment, coaching, equipment, competition and club development, training camps and any other area that contributes to enhanced capacity for programs, athletes or teams on a sport specific Paralympic pathway. The MOVE Program
MOVE by GoodLife Kids has been designed exclusively to get youth with special needs active. Once registered, participants get access to 3 live online small group sessions each week lead by our team of passionate coaches.

Strong Communities
Each Walmart stores and distribution centres can give several $1,000 Community Grants each year to local, non-profit organizations, such as schools, sports teams and community services. Organization must open an account on Walmart GDM System.

Canadian Sponsorship Program
The Canadian Sponsorship Team will only consider sponsoring events/programs that occur within Canada and that align to one of their three priorities--hockey, the arts, marathons.

Invest in 3 major areas: Free Community Events, Community Access (Servus partners with local non-profit organizations to offer free or reduced admission fees for people to enjoy community and cultural activities or attractions) and of course Financial Literacy.

Community Organization Grants
Burns Memorial Fund offers project grants to Calgary organizations working with low-income children and youth (under the age of 21) in the areas of health, education and recreation. Applicants must be registered charities working in Calgary.

Evenstrength
This initiative helps to alleviate the cost of playing hockey for children in our community who face financial barriers to participating in organized sports. Please note that in order to apply for funding, your player(s) must already be registered with your hockey association.

Daryl K. Seaman Canadian Hockey Fund
Supports all aspects of amateur ice hockey in Canada Initiatives that encourage young people to learn about, enjoy and play amateur sport of all kinds; Initiatives that increase equal access and promote participation in community-based amateur sport; Registered Canadian amateur athletic associations; and Other general charitable purposes.
Strategic Opportunity Grants
Support for small, time-sensitive, strategic initiatives that fall into either Organization Development or Program development.
Grass Root Grants - Neighbour Grant
Grants up to $7,500 to help people build their sense of inclusive belonging in their own neighbourhoods and communities. Deadline by the 8th of the month for decision made on 22nd of the month.
Grass Root Grants - Stepping Stones
Grant to help grassroots community groups undertake small creative projects that build a sense of inclusive belonging in local communities. Up to $1,000 for project expenses.

Sponsorship Program
Funding for parking, transportation or mobility related projects within Calgary that benefit members of the community. The total amount of funding available for 2021 is $35,000.

Community Engagement

Community-Based Support Projects
Eligible projects increase the capacity of an organization. Such projects create or expand services rather than maintaining existing services, for example hiring staff or purchasing new equipment.
Signature Grant
This grant is in place to contribute to the overall work and mission of national organizations that deliver programs or support to children and youth.

Reaching Each and Everyone
CPRA support community-led projects that aim to remove barriers and increase participation rates in recreation for underrepresented groups, in particular, Black, Indigenous, racially diverse, 2SLGBTQQIA+, low-income and newcomer populations, as well as people living with disabilities.

Girls in Sport
Keeping Girls in Sport is an online resource that helps coaches and youth activity leaders to create safe and respectful environments for female athletes.
Community Development Grants
Funding to help qualified-donee organizations develop or sustain sports and recreational programming for kids aged 4 - 18 in financial need. Check fall 2024 deadlines.

Spotlight Grant
This grant is for community sport and physical activity organizations who are working to remove barriers and expand opportunities for girls, women, and gender-diverse participants.
WISE Fund Grant
With the support of Sport Canada, the WISE Fund will grant 30 organizations $2500 to advance gender equity in Canadian sport.

Capacity Building and Emerging Issues Funding
Available to non-profit organizations to strengthen their organizational effectiveness, increase their programs’ impact, and address emerging social issues and trends that are impacting Calgarians. The application period is generally held annually in Q1.
Council Strategic Initiatives Fund (CSIF)
Funding for one-time events or the first of a regularly occurring event, which encourage innovation and have the potential to support or contribute to the priorities of
Emergency Resiliency Fund
funding from the Emergency Resiliency Fund (ERF) for programs and services of Calgary non-profit social service organizations impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications for ERF are now closed.
Festival and Events Subsidy Program Innovation Microgrant (FESPIM)
The FESPIM offers startup funding for new unique initiatives, aiming to spark creativity, inspire change and contribute to the growth of vibrant and impactful events in our city.
Application open end of September
Ward Community Event Fund
Each Councillor is allocated up to $10,000 per year to support events or initiatives within their respective wards. Organizations may apply for any amount necessary to support their proposed expenses.
Applications open annually on December 15 for the following year. A minimum of six to eight weeks is recommended to allow time for processing, approval, and payment.

Healthy Community Grant
Up to $5,000.00 in grant funding to overcome the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic to support physical activity, active living, and/or healthy eating within the context of recreation at the community level.
RECreate Grant
Funding to enable healthy living champions to overcome the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic to support physical activity, active living, and/or healthy eating within the context of recreation at the community level.

Community Investment Fund
Support charitable projects or events that are making an impact in the communities of Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg. Applications may be submitted throughout the year, but funding will only be awarded on a quarterly basis. 4 application review period Mar. 31, Jun. 30, Sept. 30, Dec. 31.
Community Spaces Funding
Funding to improve community health and well-being by building places for Western Canadians to come together, build social connections and enable community development. In the Recreation area, Projects can apply for between $25,000 and $150,000 in capital funding for providing enhanced recreation spaces e.g., recreation centres, playgrounds...

Supplies charitable groups and non-profits with donated IT equipment while securely managing the retiring IT assets of organizations and individuals across Canada.

Energizing Spaces Fund
