As the Olympic Games come to an end, the Summer Games are far from over. Canada’s Paralympic athletes are heading to Tokyo to compete in the Paralympic Games from August 24 to September 5. On July 13, Team Canada announced the 371 athletes that will be representing Team Canada. Of the athletes that have been named to Team Canada, 37 of them have ties to Calgary and its surrounding areas.
16-year-old Calgary athlete wins Canadian National Skipping Championship
Calgary athlete Katelyn Starr, 16-year-old, took first place at the Rope Skipping Canada national skipping competition in the 16+ female masters category. Athletes from across Canada competed with Katelyn placing first overall, and Katelyn will represent Team Canada at the International Jump Rope Union (IJRU) World Championship for the sport of Jump Rope in October 2021.

Calgary’s Cole Pratt and Yuri Kisil were two of the the 26 swimmers named to represent Canada in Tokyo. Okotoks’ Finlay Knox and Red Deer’s Rebecca Smith round out the athletes hailing from Alberta nominated to represent Canada’s swimming team. Calgary’s Dave Johnson was also named as 1 of the 10 coaches to lead Canada’s swimming team at Tokyo 2020.
