Ryan Straschnitzki
Humboldt Broncos Survivor, Mental Health and Disability Advocate, Storyteller
Ryan’s life took a dramatic turn on April 6th, 2018, when a horrific accident involving his team's bus changed not only his career but his entire outlook on life. Surviving the accident but left with life-altering injuries, Ryan's unwavering spirit led him to an inspiring path of recovery. Faced with challenges that would break many, his mental fortitude and positive attitude enabled him to overcome physical limitations. His declaration to play sled hockey and aim for gold with Team Canada in para-ice hockey is a testament to his indefatigable will.
Ryan Straschnitzki's story is one of resilience, determination, and triumph over adversity. His impact and advocacy extends far beyond his speaking as he as he actively engages with businesses, educational institutions, and community groups to create new awareness and conversations surrounding inclusive spaces, leaving a lasting impression and driving positive change through his unwavering commitment to values and principles.

Isabelle Weidemann, OLY
Isabelle is a three-time Olympic medalist and Olympic Flagbearer
Isabelle is an Olympic Speed Skater known for her gold, silver, and bronze sweep at the 2022 Winter Games. A national champion and Canadian record holder, she’s spent over a decade on Canada’s speed skating team and helped lead the women’s team pursuit to Olympic and World Championship titles.
Based in Calgary, Isabelle is also a graduate of the University of Calgary, a volunteer in local emergency departments, and an advocate for athlete wellness and science policy reform. When not skating in circles, she’s in the mountains—skiing, running, and climbing. -
Jocelyn Peterman, OLY
2x Olympian prepping for the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics
Jocelyn Peterman is a Canadian women’s and mixed doubles curler who began curling at age five in Red Deer. She rose to prominence in 2012, skipping Alberta to victory at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships. Peterman made her women’s breakthrough in 2016 playing second for Team Chelsea Carey, winning the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and competing at Worlds. She later joined Team Jennifer Jones, winning the 2018 Canada Cup and making multiple Scotties playoff runs before representing Canada at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Since 2022, she has played second for Team Kaitlyn Lawes.
In mixed doubles, Peterman competes with her husband, Brett Gallant. Together they’ve won two Canadian Mixed Doubles Championships, earned silver at the 2019 World Championship, and recently captured the 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles Trials to secure their spot at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympics. Living in Chestermere, Alberta, Peterman balances her high-performance career with volunteer work, including launching the Calgary Dinos Curling program, all while being a proud mom to her two-year-old son, Luke.

This award recognizes and celebrates the outstanding contribution of a sport club or organization, which has made a significant positive contribution to the betterment of sport in Calgary.
Lois Mitchell Sport Volunteer Dedication Award
This award is Sport Calgary’s way to acknowledge individuals who devote their time and effort toward the development of community sport.
