Axé Capoeira YYC is a non-profit organization honouring the Afro-Brazilian martial art, capoeira. Capoeira combines movement, music, and community, making it a dynamic and engaging family activity. With its playful movement and rhythmic call-and-response songs, capoeira helps children and adults alike develop coordination, confidence, and emotional resilience. As a powerful self-regulation tool, it encourages mindfulness, body awareness, and stress relief. the cooperative nature of the game fosters social emotional learning by teaching respect, adaptability, and nonverbal communication. Whether training together or supporting each other in the game, capoeira strengthens bonds while promoting both physical and emotional well-being.
Wear a comfortable pair of pants you can move in, have long hair tied back, and bring a water bottle. Please note we practice capoeira barefoot or in socks. The minimum age for child participants is 6.
