Bike Mythbusters — Calgary Public Library

  • Village Square Library 2623 56 Street Northeast Calgary, AB, T1Y 5J1 Canada (map)

Calgary Public Library has kindly offered Calgary Bike Swap a venue to bust cycling myths. The event will occur on a monthly basis and the next event is at Village Square Library on October 27th.

Some myths that we’ll discuss:

I know my child will grow into a bigger bike;

I want a car to see me, so I’ll cycle facing traffic;

I only need to lock my wheels;

I want to talk to my friends when I’m cycling - how many of us can ride next to each other?

Bring your questions about bikes, cycling infrastructure, bike safety, bike mechanics (Chris is an engineer and can tell you how to repair your bike), and any other queries you have about cycling, cycling infrastructure, or rules of riding.  And please join us if you have a group or a cause that you’d like to share - let’s make this a community event.

Who are we? Chris Grant is the Director of Alberta Bike Swap and is working toward becoming a CAN-Bike Master Instructor - he has the answers to bike myths. Chris’ trusty accomplice Laura Grant is Director  of Alberta Bike Swap and is a woman in tech that designed the bike swap software. Chris and Laura created a safe place to buy, sell, and donate bikes through their non-profit Calgary (and Alberta) Bike Swap events. Since January their non-profit has been a conduit for transportation security with over 650 bike donations that they have given to their 45 strategic alliances.

Have a question about the Calgary Public Library Bike Mythbuster event or have a bike myth that you’d like dispelled?

Can’t make this event? This event is the first of 8 presentations in every quadrant of Calgary. Please register for the October 27th event at Village Square Library.
