CAH Research and Community Engagement Seminar - Dr. Andrea Bundon

On the 28th Dr. Andrea Bundon will be joining the Calgary Adapted Hub powered by Jumpstart to share with us both her work and experiences through a presentation titled “Taking Sides: Disability Sport Research as Advocacy Work”.

You can register here

Session Learning Objectives:

  1. What are we promoting when we promote disability sport? There is often an assumption made that sport is beneficial for people with disabilities. But sport can both challenge and (re)produce disablism and discrimination. What are we actually promoting?

  2. Should we be concerned with the ‘Olympification’ of Paralympic sport? What does it mean when we position able-bodied sport (and specifically elite able-bodied sport) as the standard we are chasing?

  3. Who is being left behind as the Paralympic Movement ‘progresses’? There has been incredible growth and development in the Paralympic Movement and para-sport in recent decades. But who benefits from this progress and who is being left behind?
