Description:
For many community members, the local news media can be intimidating. This workshop with LiveWire Calgary Journalist Darren Krause will break down the stigma around local media and how communities can leverage news organizations to get their neighbourhood information out to an entire city. By the end of the workshop, you’ll feel more comfortable reaching out to local media on a local issue, a great community story, or to advocate for changes to your area. We’ll cover everything from getting the word out, preparing community people to talk, and what kind of stories local media will latch on to.
Quote from journalist Darren Krause:
“Far too often, communities feel like they don't have a voice. I would say they just need help to leverage the platform they have with the media, to help improve their areas…In an age when media doesn't have the time to go out into every community, join us for a discussion on what it means to be proactively reaching out to media to amplify your voices.”
