Title: High Performance Director
Accountability: Executive Director
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the High-Performance Director (HPD) will oversee the High Performance (HP) Goalball Programs for both the women’s and men’s teams. The HPD will collaborate closely with national team coaches to implement and deliver Canadian Blind Sports Association’s (CBSA) high performance programs.
Key responsibilities include the development and management of elite and development programs, junior athlete development, and recruitment initiatives. The HPD will also oversee coach education programs and strategic planning, ensuring alignment with the High-Performance Strategic Plan. Additionally, the HPD will supervise all national team staff and guide podium pathway development. All activities will comply with the Canadian Blind Sports Association’s codes of conduct.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
The HPD is responsible for the delivery of the high-performance plan. Working with stakeholders in collaboration with the ED (provincial sporting organizations, athletes and CBSA staff) and funders/advisors (Sport Canada and Own the Podium), the HPD provides strategic direction. Specific responsibilities include: Design, manage, supervise, and evaluate the National Team Programs from a strategic – quadrennial, operational – annual, and risk management perspective.
Contribute to the development of, and be aligned with, the organization’s overall strategic plan from a HP perspective.
Review, modify and update the Gold Medal Profile and Winning Style of Play for each program
Supervise, manage, evaluate coaching staff as assigned.
Identify, secure and evaluate sport science, sport medicine, and other supports for the National Team Programs.
Administer the Athlete Assistance Program, anti-doping program, and Classification Program, including ensuring compliance with the overarching policies and codes in effect.
Operate the programs based on ethical and safe sport principles, practices and policies
Lead debriefing of training camp, domestic and international competitions
Prepare and monitor annual and quadrennial budgets
Support the organization with liaison for Sport system performance partners including CPC, SC, OTP.
Development and Recruitment strategies in collaboration with PSOs
Plan, oversee, implement and evaluate all elements of high-performance program and athlete pipelines to ensure sustainable excellence by Canadian athletes
Provide leadership and technical expertise to all high-performance program stakeholders
Communicate the vision and goals of the high-performance program, serving as a key Sport brand ambassador for sport excellence in Canada
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Support and implement a high-performance culture within the organization
Treat all athletes and staff with respect, communicating in a positive constructive manner.
Always represent the organization in a professional manner.
Project an exemplary model of performance excellence, conduct and sportsmanship to all athletes and staff.
Know the competition organizing committee rules pertaining to the events and communicate them to the head coach.
Respect the jurisdictions at IPC, IBSA, and CBSA events with regard to protests, discipline, code of conduct, behavior, rule changes, classification matters, and competition procedures.
Guarantee a safe, equitable, positive, and encouraging environment for all athletes and staff to excel.
Demonstrate sensitivity to athletes mental and physical well being by actively encouraging and facilitating available support services.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES:
Required:
High Performance Experience (Minimum 3 years)
Undergraduate Degree in Kinesiology or a field related to sport science, sport administration and high- performance planning.
Valid Passport (domestic and international travel)
Proven record in leading teams to stated outcomes in multi disciplinary, cross functional environments while delivering on strategic objectives and performance targets.
Analytical skills and proven record in strategic high performance sport system planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation at the national & international level.
Exceptionally strong leader with the ability to motivate, inspire, manage, communicate and empower staff via communication and emotional intelligence toward a common vision through relationship building across a wide variety of stakeholders and partners.
Experience in developing strategies & proposals, developing and managing budgets, preparing reports and various types of documents, and delivering presentations.
Preferred:
Masters Degree in Kinesiology or a field related to sport science,
Experience as a coach or team sport experience in a high- performance environment
Ability to work effectively in both of Canada’s official languages
Experience of working with athletes who are visually impaired
Knowledge of the Canadian High Performance Sport system including Sport Canada, Own the Podium, Canadian Olympic Committee, Canadian Paralympic Committee and the COPSI Network.
