Board expresses gratitude for President & CEO’s nine years of service
CALGARY, AB – Sport Calgary announced today that President & CEO Catriona Le May Doan, O.C. has departed the organization. The Board of Directors extends its deep gratitude to Catriona for her leadership, vision, and impact during her tenure with the organization.
“Since joining Sport Calgary in 2016, Catriona has elevated our city’s sport ecosystem to a national standard of excellence,” said Jeff Booke, Chair of the Board of Directors. “On behalf of the Board and our entire sport community, I want to thank her for advancing access, performance, and partnership in sport across Calgary.”
Under Catriona’s leadership, Sport Calgary achieved significant milestones:
Advancing the implementation of the Civic Sport for Life policy by breaking down barriers to sport participation, especially for equity deserving populations through an expansion of free sport discovery opportunities.
Advocating for safe and inclusive sport through the mandatory safe sport standards that are being implemented and helping to create the Declaration of Inclusion in 2019.
Sport Calgary has become a national example of how to connect people, sport and facilities through education, promotion, and advocacy.
“I am proud of the work our team has done over the last decade to break down barriers of participation,” said Le May Doan. “Sport Calgary has ensured all Calgarians have the opportunity to play, which has resulted in a healthier and more active community. In making significant progress towards our goals in this work, I believe our organization is now well-positioned for the next chapter.”
The Board confirms that this leadership transition is part of a well-planned succession process. Recruitment for the next President & CEO is underway, with an aim for a seamless transition that preserves continuity for Sport Calgary’s programs, partners, including the City of Calgary, and community stakeholders.
“We look forward to building on the foundation that Catriona has established,” Booke added. “Sport Calgary’s next phase will carry forward her emphasis on impact, innovation, and inclusion.”
Sport Calgary is grateful for Catriona’s passion and energy she has invested in building our community through sport, and we wish continued success in the next stage of her career.
