Sport Calgary Set to Host FREE Winter Festival at Olympic Oval
—Winter Sport Festival and All Sport One City feature sporting activity, music and fun while embracing winter—
CALGARY—Sport Calgary will celebrate Family Day by hosting its inaugural Winter Festival at the Olympic Oval on February 17 from 12 noon to 5 p.m.
Held in conjunction with its 10-day All Sport One City program that provides adults and Calgary families FREE sport discovery sessions at more than 40 sport venues across the city, Sport Calgary will celebrate the power of sport in the city with a day of activity on the ice at Olympic Oval while partnering with local clubs and sport groups.
Calgarians will have the opportunity to enjoy a full slate of FREE activities including: skating on the Olympic Oval, trying ringette, learn to skate instruction, hopping on a sledge and learning Para ice hockey, and stepping into a pair of long blades and trying speed skating while meeting two Calgary-based Olympians – Caeli McKay (diving) and Kelsey Mitchell (track cycling) – along with some of the Stampede City’s favourite mascots.
The Oval – a premier multi-sport facility in Calgary’s Olympic legacy – will be equally busy off the ice. Calgarians of all ages are welcome to drop-in and try sport activations like curling, biathlon, fencing, soccer, kendo, and much more. Many of Calgary’s local sport clubs and opportunities will also be exhibiting in “activation alley” to provide information on affordable sport programs that are available in our city.
Parking is also FREE in Lot 10 at the University of Calgary.
A Calgary “Stay and Play Package” is also available working in cooperation with Calgary Hotel Asociation: https://www.calgaryhotelassociation.com/members-directory
All Sport One City is also running this year from February 8–17. Calgary families will have an opportunity to try more than 200 sport sessions for FREE at designated venues throughout the city. All Sport One City is an important Sport Calgary program designed to provide Calgarians with opportunities to live healthier and more active lives while enjoying introductory sport programs including: 25 different types of fitness/workout classes, rugby, disc golf, ultimate frisbee, cricket, fencing, tai chi, pickleball and so much more. All sessions are led by certified instructors from community-based sport organizations focused on ensuring a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all skill levels and backgrounds.
