Sport Calgary - Call For Expression of Interest - Board of Directors
This is a volunteer position and is based out of Calgary, AB. All successful candidates will be required to meet quarterly in person.
Sport Calgary is currently seeking qualified candidates to join its Board of Directors to provide strategic leadership and direction, oversight, and governance to the organization. We are looking for qualified individuals who are passionate about sports in Calgary and are looking for a rewarding volunteer role.
The Sport Calgary Board of Directors is a Governance Board, with three committees: Internal Affairs, External Affairs, and Governance. Board term appointments are for a two-year renewable term. More information can be found by referring to the Board of Directors Position Description.
Sport Calgary is a volunteer non-profit society, representing sport in the city of Calgary. As an advocate of sport, we strive to assist, support and influence the growth of sport in Calgary by:
Increasing the profile of sport in Calgary.
Advocating the values and benefits of sport.
Continually identifying and assessing the needs of the sport community and facility stakeholders.
Fostering collaboration within the sport community and coordination of resources amongst stakeholders to develop and enhance facilities.
Acting as a resource for sport organizations.
Encouraging the hosting of sport events in Calgary.
Members of the Sport Calgary Board of Directors are a diverse team of leaders with combined experience in sport, finance, public relations, law, corporate governance, strategic planning, and senior management in the public, private and non-profit sectors.
We currently have a need for new board members who have skills and experience in the following areas:
• Fund Development - an individual with the ability to create diverse funding opportunities with new partners, with experience securing funds, approvals and other forms of support from government, foundations, corporate Calgary and individual donors
• Government Relations - an individual with a broad network of connections within Calgary, including relationships with representatives from the City of Calgary administration and councillors, donors and other levels of government with demonstrated commitment to sport
• Legal / Governance - an individual with strong legal and governance experience, particularly having worked with and supported non-profit and/or civic partner organizations.
Experience working within the sport system including safe sport and DEI is considered an asset.
A Nominating Committee will assess candidates according to the competencies outlined above and take into account the need for varied representation. We value the diversity of the people we work with and serve, and we strive to develop an inclusive culture where everyone can contribute.
