Job Title: Events & Marketing Intern
Hourly Wage: $20-$25 (depending on candidate strength and abilities) Number of Hours per Week: 28
This is a temporary job for January-April 2024, renewable. This role is based out of our office located at Father David Bauer Arena. Occasional work from home may be required, as well as occasional evening and weekends to assist with events. There is a possibility of a 4-month extension through August 2024, contingent on grant funding and performance.
Sport Calgary assists, supports, and influences the growth of sport in Calgary. We work across all sports, helping individuals, teams and organizations learn, improve, and grow to ensure ‘Calgary thrives through sport for everyone’. There will be opportunities to interact with volunteers, sport administrators, and facility managers, which will allow the successful candidate to gain first-hand experience in community sport & recreation and see the mechanics and administration of a variety of sport organizations and facilities.
The Events & Marketing Intern will assist in the planning, marketing, & implementation of All Sport One City, one of Sport Calgary’s signature events, which provides free opportunities for adults & families to discover the sport & physical activity opportunities in Calgary, All Sport One Community, a program that will provide sport opportunities to underserved communities, and Sport Calgary’s first Winter Festival, a 1-day festival of sport at the Olympic Oval on February 17, 2025.
Job Description
Participate in ideation, planning, and execution of marketing initiatives to promote All Sport One City, All Sport One Day and All Sport One Community
Participate in ideation, planning, execution and promotion of professional development event
series (webinars, workshops, networking events, speaker series) and other events.
Build-out the event schedule for internal tracking, online registration platform and Sport
Calgary website
Work with sport groups & facilities to organize All Sport One City schedule and Sport Calgary
Winter Festival
Update Sport Calgary website with member programs, community news, & job postings
Assist with set-up of online registration platform and management of participant
registration
Run All Sport One City/All Sport One Community programming on-site on event days
Create social media content to promote Sport Calgary & our member’s programs
Manage inventory of promotional items and event signage
Manage event table/promo booth at various community events
Capture engaging and memorable sport moments for social media
Assist with other tasks as required
Job Requirements
A student in progress toward or having recently completed a degree (or diploma) in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Sport Management, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field
Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work within a small team
Excellent Computer skills are required, must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
Fast learner who can become proficient in event, membership, and website management platforms
Attention to detail and ability to think critically are extremely important to success in this role
Strong professional writing and verbal communication skills; the ability and comfort level to clearly communicate with member organizations, participants, parents, volunteers and event partners over the phone, via email and in-person
Some evening and weekend hours will be required. (Sport Calgary has a lieu-time policy). Vacation/time-off cannot be taken between February 1-17.
Understanding and knowledge of community sport in Calgary is an asset.
Past office experience and past customer service experience are assets
