Sport Calgary is looking to reconnect with Calgarians and Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic Teams at Olympic Plaza while celebrating the opening weekend of the 2022 Beijing Games and Chinook Blast with a FREE Sport Festival, February 5-6, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A new project aims to enhance opportunities for physical activity and recreation for Calgary families of all ability levels and in particular, for children with disabilities.

CALGARY, Alberta — Sport Calgary’s popular “All Sport One Day” event set a new attendance record this year, with over 4000 kids discovering a new sport for free.

Held this year on Saturday, June 15, All Sport One Day is a free annual day of sport discovery for Calgary kids ages 6 to 17. Local sport organizations – over 85 this year - volunteered their time to host over 380 sport sessions at 20 partner facilities across Calgary.

The Foothills Athletic Park design - as currently proposed by city administration - aligns with the expressed needs of sport groups and community users across all amateur sport in Calgary. Feasibility studies indicate the facility would be financially sustainable due to significant usage from many groups.

Throughout the Calgary 2026 Olympic and Paralympic bid exploration process last year, it seemed the “Yes” and “No” sides disagreed on nearly everything. Costs, timelines and potential legacies were disputed.

One issue both sides agreed on? The importance of amateur sport in Calgary.
